Our last day in Guatemala was awesome! We went to Pastores this morning and completed the house. We built the outside kitchen, installed the stove, and dedicated the home to The Lord. The family was overwhelmed with joy and thanksgiving to God. We were able to tell them that this home was not a gift from us but rather from God who is the giver of all good things. It was a special time. Our prayer will be that the family and the children that will be raised in this home will honor God and make disciples of Jesus Christ.
Our original plan for today was to go to Santa Maria de Jesus to paint the feeding center that we visited last week. However, because we were delayed yesterday we were not able to paint. This opened up our afternoon so we asked Bob and Georgette if we could visit Pastor Abraham in Buena Vista again. We were able to visit with Abraham, his wife, and children in their home. They were so hospitable. We talked about what God has been doing in their church, Sala Evangelica, and their desire for expanding their ministry. We also shared with them our desire to partner with them to reach their part of the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There was a tremendous excitement in the room. We were also able to leave them with a blessing that would meet an immediate need within their church body. We can’t wait to get home and share with everyone the details of this part of our trip. We couldn’t have ended it any better way.
Our evening was marvelous too. We had steak for dinner. Yes, we are suffering for Jesus eating steak in Guatemala! The meal was marvelous and Gene has promised that he will make some of the desserts we have enjoyed for our next New Day Fellowship! I’m thinking we need to put one on the schedule!
Jeff led us in a wonderful devotional tonight from Isaiah 40. He reminded us that everything in this world will pass away, except the word of God. He reminded us to think on the beauty of our Savior and enjoy His marvelous grace in our lives and leverage our lives to advance His purposes.
Bob surprised us at the end of Jeff’s devotion by taking us all into the “Blue Room” at the mission house. When we got there we saw that he had prepared the Lord’s Supper for us. When he got up to begin serving us he said, “I hope I don’t offend anyone,” because he served the Lord’s Supper from a common loaf and common cup. Little did he know that New Day celebrates the Lord’s Supper this way every month! Not only was it a special time of remembrance but an encouragement to us all as we shared in Christ’s sufferings for us and rejoiced in His marvelous grace.
Tomorrow we travel. Our plane leaves Guatemala City at 8 a.m. CST and arrives in Miami at 11:30 a.m. EST. We have a long layover in Miami and leave there at 3:55 p.m. EST and will arrive in Pensacola at 4:45 p.m. CST. Please pray for us as we travel. We really enjoyed Guatemala but long to seeing our families.
Be sure to join us for worship this Sunday Morning, March 2, 2014 as we will report back to the church all that God did on the trip and celebrate our victory in Jesus Christ!
